A Little Nippy Last Night

Tom here! I love weather, but living in Southern California means I am deprived of many significant kinds of weather (Hurricanes, snow, hail, big thunderstorms…). Last night was an exception. FREEZING WEATHER was going to envelope the LA basin with possibly record breaking low temperatures (Upper twenties). So I placed a bucket of water out to see if ice would form on it, and I put a sheet over the plumeria to prevent it from getting frost bite (I like to garden too). I figured the automatic sprinklers would help the rest of the garden when they turned on at 6:00 AM. In the morning I went out to check, and yes I had a sheet of ice in my bucket of water. I checked the garden and the water had turned to ice over the lawn and any plants that it came in contact with. Of my sensitive tropical plants the ginger appears to have faired well, but many other plants were casualties to frost bite. I turned the water back on and hosed off many plants to prevent any additional damage.
