No liquids yet

Sarah, Natalie's swallowing therpist, tested Natalie on thickened prune juice before turning on the e-stim today. She said Natalie still sounded a little wet in her swallow without the therpeutic support of the e-stim. She said the conservative action would be to not feed her thickened liquids at home yet, but she also felt that the more practice she had with liquids, the better, so she left it up to me if we would give her liquids at home.

I decided we would wait a week and test her again next Monday to see how she does, because I don't want to risk pneumonia. Sarah was impressed with how well she did eating (lots of practice since the last time we saw her). The challenge continues to be the balance of calories-volume- liquids, which relates to the balance of weight gain-don't make her puke-constipation. I'm not a juggler, so we try to balance two at a time. I need to talk to her GI dr or a nutritionist for advice.
