Regular readers will know that I don't deviate too much from reporting on our day, without too much editorializing. But today brought back to mind a train of thought I had a couple months ago...
...have you ever stopped to think of what it was like to be the mother of two-year-old Jesus? He was sinless, so he always came when he was called, he never talked back, he obeyed everything Mary said. Wow! I can imagine Mary chatting with the other moms in Bethlehem. One is talking about how her daughter always does this, and what a challenge it is, and another mom is talking about her son and how he never does that, and what a challenge it is. And there is Mary, knowing she has the PERFECT child, because he responds instantly to her voice, he is never grouchy, he never yells or throws things, he always tells the truth, he's always pleasant, and he always does what she says right away. How easy is this, she thinks, I NEVER have to discipline my son! And then she has her second child, and that's when she knows, beyond a shadow of a doubt--if she ever had any doubt--that her son Jesus is God.
So now you know what kind of a morning I just had! My son, who is not sinless, is sleeping peacefully during his nap, after challenging me at every point. I think God gave me a strong-willed two-year-old to help me understand how he views me in my sinful state. With much love, and with a shaking head, saying "why don't you just obey...it's so much easier for both of us!"
