Developing her palate

We're trying to feed Natalie what we eat for dinner, as much as possible. We've mashed up Scandinavian beans and rice, and she loves that. She had tamale pie last week...she ate it mashed up but it was taking her too long to chew and swallow so I ran it through the food mill and then she made quick work of it. Tonight we had bean and potato burritos, so I mashed together some of the refried beans, potatoes, cheese and added a good amount of sour cream (the last time I tried this with her, I didn't include the sour cream at first, and she rejected it). She also ate small pieces of fresh tomatoes. For lunch I gave her some canned tuna (added a little olive oil to make it not so dry.)

She still just has six teeth (three on top and three directly below on the bottom--so she's a little lopsided), and one of Natalie's therapists commented that because she has such good chewing motion now, she should be able to eat most foods when she gets more teeth. This is so encouraging for us, because it is fairly common for kids with RTS to resist foods with textures and only eat purees (for many years, if not forever). Natalie does great with textures, and even enjoyed the tamale pie, which had a little spice to it.
