My sister Rose called this evening to update us on Gary and her bike trip down the California coast. They stopped tonight at Seaside, just north of Monterey, and are at the halfway point. She said that instead of taking a day off, they rode light the past two days (50-55 miles each day). Up to tonight they've stayed in motels, but when they called ahead to tomorrow night's location, everything is booked up, so they plan to camp. Rose thinks the campgrounds might even be booked up by the time they arrive, so they might do wilderness, dispersed camping in the Los Padres National Forest.
There are a lot of hills in tomorrow's ride, and Rose predicts it will be their toughest day yet, but they're having a great time and have had good weather (only a little drizzle yesterday, which was actually refreshing).
