Grinding

It's been a busy week for us, and I just checked the camera to see what pictures were in it and realized I hadn't reported on one of the major events of the week chez nous: our street got ground down in preparation for repaving. Lukas and I watched the big grinder (in the photo) and the little grinder (attached to a bobcat) while Natalie and Lukas took naps. Lukas had a blast watching all the big equipment. He also enjoyed the man who measured the streets with a rolling measuring thing.

We can't wait for the beautiful smooth street that will be paved in two weeks! Even the grinding was pretty smelly, so I'm prepared for a huge smell when that happens. Fortunately, the paving will happen on a day we often stay at home, so I don't have to worry about how I'm going to get out of the house (or worse yet, come home and not be able to get to our driveway...we have no sidewalks, so how would I get the kids from the car on a faraway street to the house?) We're just going to be homebodies that day, carefully watching the production (Lukas likes to supervise, er, watch).
