My trick for keeping Lukas from getting jumping-out-of-his-skin-excited about something is to not tell him what we're doing until the day it happens...whenever possible. We didn't follow this rule in the weeks before our recent camping trip, so by the time we finally went camping, Lukas was too excited...yes, it is very possible to be too excited about something! The other benefit of my trick is that if something happens (someone gets sick...much more likely with three small children!) we just don't go and there's no disappointment because he never knew we were going in the first place!
So even though Sandy and I had planned to get together again weeks ago, I didn't tell Lukas until this morning that we were going to visit Kevin and Nathan. And everything worked out just fine. Lukas didn't go bonkers at the playdate, and both he and Natalie had a fun time playing with Kevin and Nathan. But with five kids between us, there was a lot of commotion and a lot of keeping track of who was going where and getting into what and sharing or not sharing. Thanks, Sandy, for a very fun time! We plan to have you over again soon!
