Summer Neighbors

A family of American Kestrels moved in a couple of months ago. They raised two chicks and rid our neighborhood of a lot of mice. Everyday we heard the cries of a parent celebrating a kill, and the squawking of the babies who always seemed famished. I have one photo of a parent sitting on a palm leaf with the chicks (Click on the photo to enlarge) and one of a parent preparing a meal for his chicks.

These birds are a lot more welcome in my backyard than the parrots or the crows...AND they eat mice!
