Carpe diem

Yesterday was very hot, and today turned out to be even hotter (in the 90s?) So at 3 pm I called Tom at work and suggested we go to the beach and have a picnic dinner. It may not be this hot again until next summer, and it's supposed to rain (!) this weekend, so today was the day to seize and get to the beach, even if it wasn't the weekend!

I picked up sandwiches from Lee's Sandwiches (we love their Asian sandwiches with grilled meat, cilantro and jalepenos on a baguette...the kids split a ham and cheese on a croissant), then we picked up Tom at work to save the time of his trip home and were on the beach by 5:30, trying to keep the seagulls at bay and Lukas from kicking sand in our food (what part of "keep your feet still" do you not understand?)

What a perfect day! The air and water temperature were perfect with a very slight breeze, and the sun setting to provide beautiful lighting.

The kids had A BLAST! Here are a few pictures of our perfect evening (we've already forgotten the extended crying session at the car by Natalie and Konrad because they were cold, wet [Natalie], sandy and tired). Natalie got tossed by a wave (Tom said Lukas kept saying, "look out, there's a big wave!" but Lukas had been saying that the whole time, so Tom didn't pay attention and then Natalie lost her balance).

Sigh!

I'm sure we'll be remembering this beautiful outing during the dreary winter...or maybe we'll have an Indian Summer or two and carpe diem again!

Be still my heart. WOW, what a great day. So glad you had your camera to share; with us and with your babies when they get older. Blessings, Whitney
