Today I finally got a call from the school district with the date of Natalie's assessment, and the date for her first IEP meeting. We've been inching toward this change from therapy in a clinic and at home, to in a preschool environment, but now the first week of December doesn't seem that far away.
As I have said before, just when I feel like we understand the bureaucracy that provides Natalie's therapy, she will turn 3 in a month and a half and we will switch to a new bureaucracy for the next 15 years.
The assessment is November 3, and the IEP is November 10. Send me your list of "must do" things for both meetings (privately)...I'll be contacting a few of you to get an idea of how this might go. I know that honey is better than vinegar, but beyond that, I don't know how to "work the system" yet. I'm sure it will be a "fun" learning experience for Tom and me!

Oh my, I am nervous for you. I am dreading the switch for Will. I will be praying for Natalie, you, Tom and the school officials.
Cindy and Tom - you are consciously and artfully raising 3 happy, healthy citizens of the earth. That's the hard part. Making your way to clear a path for Natalie in the school district will likely be a little intimidating at first, but quite manageable. You know what's right for Natalie. Their rules for obtaining it are no match against your commitment to ensuring she gets it. Not to imply, however, that it is a battle. It's is a tricky puzzle of communication, is all. You'll hang before long, am sure of it. Meanwhile, if I can be of any concrete and practical assistance (despite the distance), please call on me. Cheers on this new chapter. It's exciting!
Good luck.. I am sure you will be fine.. Hugs to all of you
