Monday was a busy day...Konrad's actual birthday, baby #4's ultrasound AND Natalie's little birthday celebration with her class at school. I'm finally getting around to posting about Natalie's school celebration!
I had asked her teacher if it was ok to bring a treat for the kids for Natalie's birthday (because I've read about schools not wanting sugar treats or unhealthy things) and the teacher said, "Yes, you can bring a treat, but it needs to be store-bought, individually wrapped." Not the answer I was expecting!
Now if you know me even a little, you know that I bake everything from scratch (ok, I'll admit I have been known to buy Ghiradelli's brownie mix, since it actually tastes like real brownies). I don't buy cake mix, and a Hostess product has never graced our house (at least since I've lived here). I like to make gourmet cupcakes!
But for Natalie's class, I have to bring a Hostess product, basically, if I want to serve a cupcake.
So I did.
I had also planned on doing this on Friday, December 4, but she didn't go to school on Friday because of a teacher in-service day, so the next best date was Monday. The other fun thing about Monday is it was raining cats and dogs all morning (it only rains in the winter in California...this is the first rain we've had since the last one two months ago, and that was the first all season). Anyway, when Tom came home for lunch, I dashed to Natalie's school and got sopping wet on the way from the car to the classroom, even with a raincoat on.
Natalie said, "Hi Momma!" several times, and then went back to playing (since it was raining outside, they couldn't play on the playground). Then Miss Stacie got the class together to talk about Natalie turning four. As soon as Natalie saw me with the camera, she said, "cheeeeeeeeeese!"
The kids sang Happy Birthday to Natalie while she sat mesmerized by the flaming cupcake. Miss Rhiannon encouraged Natalie to blow the candles, but Natalie could only stare at the candles. Miss Rhiannon blew one at a time, and finally on the last candle, Natalie came out of her reverie and blew out the last candle! I was so shocked I didn't get a photo, but I was so proud of her.
It was a fun little event...and maybe our birthday celebrations are over for a while. Although I do need to get a video of Natalie talking about being four...
