No, we didn't eat fish for a week. We babysat fish for a week! Last Tuesday at school (Lukas goes one day a week to a co-op school and I homeschool him the rest of the week), the science teacher asked me if we'd like to fish-sit the class fish for a week. Ok, but what if they die on our watch? She said they had already lived longer than she had expected: they had done experiments with the fish like putting half in warm water and half in cold water and observing their level of activity. Whew, no pressure!
Of course the kids love love loved having the fish. I had to figure out where to put them that Natalie and Konrad could see the fish but not tip over the aquarium, and it turned out that a corner of the kitchen counter was perfect (I don't know if the fish enjoyed the view, since one side was the wall and the other side was Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child, so they only had two sides to look out on). And, no, I didn't have the cookbook opened to the recipe for filet de poisson pochês au vin blanc.
Tom and I had actually talked about getting Lukas a fish or several fish for a birthday present, so this was a nice trial run. And I'm happy to say that all six fish have survived a week at The Happy Ones, so it's time for them to go back to school for the day, and then home with another lucky family!

betta's are quite pretty, come in different colors, only need a dish of water and food, no bubbler or anything fussy..
