Today Natalie had her pre-op appointment with the ENT to discuss the results of her hearing/audiology test and get ready for re-placing her ear tubes the first week of March.
As I previously mentioned, Natalie's hearing test went really well. Even though one tube is either plugged with wax or the hole in her eardrum has actually grown over, she has good hearing in that ear. The ENT said, "well she's still going under anesthesia for something else, right? So I'll still check her ear tubes." I told him the ophthalmologist was only going to check her eyes because she was going under for ear tubes. So the ENT said, "Let cancel the surgery date!"
He said that as kids' heads grow, things open up and make more space. He said Natalie is in the "teaser" time...she could be teasing us that she's grown enough and ready to put ear tubes behind her, while actually still needing ear tubes in a few months. But she doesn't need them right now, so let's see how she does and wait until she needs them.
Tom and I are concerned about her hearing regressing without tubes, so we'll have the ENT check her in the office in three months, and obviously if we sense a lack of hearing, we can go in or ask for another hearing test earlier. But it's such an odd experience for Natalie to not need something that was planned. Go Natalie!
