...who is getting ready to become a beautiful butterfly.Lukas spotted a caterpillar climbing our garage door after dinner this evening (I love the time change!) We thought it might attach itself at a place where the garage door would damage its pupa, so Tom moved the caterpillar above the garage door and then snapped these pictures.
It's the caterpillar for a Mourningcloak butterfly. A few years ago we had at least fifty attached to our house, going through metamorphosis (we've never had that many since), so we know what they are! It will be fun for the kids to watch it, and hopefully we'll happen to see it emerge as a beautiful butterfly.
