Today I got my hair trimmed, er, cut. I used to get my hair cut at a salon, but for the past couple years it's been easier to not have to deal with an appointment, but to just walk in to SuperCuts, so that's where I've been getting my hair cut. I can't remember having a bad experience, because I have a pretty straightforward cut: just a bob.
The haircutter asked me how much I wanted off. I said "1 inch." She asked if I wanted the same cut, and I said, "yes." Since she wasn't talking to me I tried to relax and almost take a nap. Of course, I didn't want to fall asleep, but I wanted to relax as if I were falling asleep. At one point I noticed a piece of hair on my lap and thought, "that's more than an inch!" I said, "That's a pretty long inch."
The cutter picked up a piece of hair from the floor and showed it to me and said, "That's an inch." I said, "I think it's closer to two inches." She said, "No, two inches would be this much," and showed me an amount of my hair that looked to me like 3-4 inches. I didn't say anything else. When she asked if I wanted my bangs trimmed, I said "yes, but not an inch!" We discussed how short they would be. I was cordial throughout and didn't want to make a big deal about it, but I did think she had her measurements way off. I noticed from her business card that she was the store manager!
So when she finished, I got a card in my purse that had a 3" ruler on it and picked up another piece of hair and showed it to her. It was definitely MORE than 1.75 inches, pretty close to 2 inches. I just told her I should have shown her the amount between my fingers instead of saying "an inch."
So I got two inches off, and it looks fine, but it's a good thing I didn't ask for two inches off!
