Thursday is park day, where we get together with other moms of preschoolers from our church and go to a park...different park every week, from among 5-6 parks we visit. Right after we arrived, I was carrying Natalie and saying hi to another mom arriving while walking...I shouldn't try to do so many things at once! I didn't notice I was walking into a slight pit in the playground, rolled my ankle and dropped Natalie.
Thankfully we were on woodchips. She fell about 3 feet onto her belly. Of course she cried a lot. I think the wind got knocked out of her, and I don't think her head hit...more of a straight line drop, so her whole front absorbed the shock, instead of just one part of her body. I was quite worried, though. I was going to give her 15 minutes to calm down, and then take her to the hospital if she wasn't better by then. After about 8 minutes, she stopped crying and even cracked a smile. Then Lukas announced he had to potty, so I left her with another mom while I took him, and when I came back she said Natalie had been smiling the whole time. I fed Natalie by tube and everything was fine. We're still watching her for another 24 hours to make sure.
What a scare! When each of the kids were born, I would have a "dream while awake" that they fell from a great height, and it turned the pit of my stomach. The "dreams" stopped after a few months (must be something post partum), and I haven't thought about it in ages and then this happens.
Lukas loves playing on the slides. A few months ago he didn't care for slides, but now he likes to climb and slide, climb and slide (he's always been a climber). At the park, one of the playgrounds says "Ages 0-4" and one says "Ages 5-12". Of course, he prefers the 5-12 one, and can actually climb on 90% of it. For his age, he has a good idea of his limitations.
