Breakthrough?

While Lukas was napping, I decided to try to feed Natalie 5 ounces of baby food by mouth, which is the quantity of formula and baby cereal I give her through the tube at one meal. She kept crying while I tried to feed her. I think it was because she was hungry and she wanted to say, "Stop with the flavors in the mouth, Mom, I want my belly filled now!" I don't think she has a concept that eating takes away the empty feeling in her belly yet.

About halfway through the feeding, Lukas woke up and her meal was interrupted (see previous post). After Lukas was settled down with a bandaid and snack (and showered and new clothes), we finished the meal and she did great! No crying, happy to eat! I think the little that she took before the interruption was enough to take the edge off, and then she could eat happily. Anyway, she took about 5 ounces by mouth over the course of 1.25 hours (with a 30-minute intermission).

As if that weren't enough of a success, before dinner she sat on the floor, unsupported, for at least 5 minute stretches. She and Lukas were watching "Elmo's Potty Time" while I was getting dinner ready. I put a sofa pillow behind her in case she threw herself backward, and I had to sit her up again a few times, but there at the end of the video, I know she sat for more than 5 minutes. Natalie can sit!
