Lukas has come to identify a date with Mom as pancakes at IHOP and a carwash. I don't mind it a few times, but I'd like him to have a little variety, so today we went to Ikea and had pancakes (I order one breakfast meal and he gets the pancakes and bacon and I get the eggs and potatoes--he's allergic to eggs). I wanted to get some water glasses there, and to check out some home office furniture a friend got there.
Lukas had a great time "sleeping" in all the toddler beds in the children's section. He also enjoyed riding the escalator...he's always asking to do that at the mall, but we can't because usually we have a stroller. Of course, we used the restroom twice, and Lukas' fettish for automatic equipment was satisfied with automatic toilets, automatic faucets AND automatic hand dryers all in one restroom (and automatic paper towel dispensers, but we didn't go there because the hand dryers are more interesting). "Mommy, how do they know to flush? How do they know to come on? Is this the button you push?" "No, Lukas, that's the eye that sees you are there and makes the hand dryer turn on."
He also enjoyed typing at the mock computer in the office furniture, turning on the kitchen faucets that aren't hooked up to the water supply, and jumping on the round bed under the bed canopy. He asked what kind of store Ikea is, and I said, "a warehouse," so he asked multiple times, "why is this a warehouse?" Again, why? I've stopped answering his why questions that cannot be answered...he gets stuck on saying "why?"
But anytime I want to go shopping at Ikea, I have a willing participant!
