Ashley organized a field trip to the Bodega Chocolate Factory today with a bunch of friends and kids from church. What a fun trip! When I told Tom about it last night, he just got this happy reminiscent look on his face and told me that his first field trip as a child was to a chocolate factory.
From Lukas' perspective, nothing could be better than a factory, where things spin and turn and move. He loves watching the toilet paper factory in Elmo's Potty Time, but this is chocolate!
The tour started with a history of the company (family owned for generations) and then went to the tasting room where we had to keep our kids (and ourselves) from making ourselves sick on the chocolate samples. Then we went to one of the rooms where they cut the candies and cover them with chocolate. All the kids got to don a glove and the lady helped them write their name in chocolate on one of the candies.
They didn't allow photos in the factory (except one of the kids writing their names in chocolate, taken on another friend's camera), so we recreated the event at home after dinner. Here is Lukas with his "chocolate hat" that we all had to wear while visiting, eating the candy that he decorated. Natalie enjoyed several slivers of chocolate covered graham crackers. She had a sly little smile of appreciation for the finer things in life.

Oh boy... that sounds like FUN. I am envious!
And Natalie has more than a "sly little smile", if you ask me.
Very cute picture!
