I'm excited to announce that Lukas did not have a single accident during the entire five days we were gone (and not since we've been back, either). When we went camping at Joshua Tree NP a couple months ago, he had a couple #2 accidents because he couldn't make it to the bathroom in time (it's nicer to have camping sites that aren't right next to the bathrooms, but that comes at a price!)
We had been planning to get a big porta-potty with chemicals and everything for our campsite, but Katie mentioned this cheap little kids potty for $10 at Babies R Us. It worked great! Lukas is a little large for it, but he made it work (we called it our emergency potty). It folds up into almost nothing and comes with three bags (we'll use grocery bags as replacements). He used it twice in the campsite and once on the road out of Sequoia Park, where there are no bathrooms in sight for 45 minutes. We just pulled over to the side of the road and took care of it.
Of course, Lukas being a boy, he comes with equipment to make #1 a little easier. One of his favorite things while camping is to pee into an empty water bottle, first thing in the morning in the tent. When Natalie is toilet trained, it will be a little more difficult!
