Last Saturday Lukas and I went to the City of Fullerton’s Railroad Days Festival. We arrived early, and I immediately headed for the giant #3751, 4-8-4 steam locomotive. Well almost immediately. Lukas had to check out the vintage potty inside the train station first. Lukas was intimidated by the size of the steaming engine with 80” tall wheels, but he finally relaxed and pointed out the dripping water and the cow catcher to me. He was surprised when they blew the very loud whistle and a cloud of steam rose into the sky. He wasn’t as interested in the idling diesel electric train, so we skipped it and headed over to the displays. What caught his eye next…? The OCTA bus with the open doors, of course. He ran up and down the aisles, selected several seats to sit in and enjoyed entering and exiting through both doors. Is there an animated series about a public bus? I can guarantee one viewer. After bus heaven, we headed over to the model train displays. We then discovered the next best thing to public transportation—an antique horse-drawn fire engine with a Dalmatian sitting in the seat. The firemen helped Lukas aboard, and he grinned ear to ear as he petted the dog. I actually got a real nice smile from him rather than his scrunchy face that he prefers. We checked out some more train displays including one of the trains from Disneyland, which was brought over by truck. After playing on the bus one more time we headed home.
