Train Spotting
After we left Wawona we stopped off at the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad. I had hoped to ride the train, which is pulled by a large Shay locomotive, but we arrived too late. While we waited for the train to pull into the station, Lukas got in the seat of one of the Jenny cars they have. A Jenny is an old maintenance car that is powered by a model A Ford motor. I controlled myself quite nicely when the train pulled in and only took 100 pictures (Exaggeration). A Shay locomotive is unique in that it has vertically mounted pistons on the side of the engine, which turn a drive shaft that runs the length of the engine and the tender. They are not very fast trains but they are well suited for roughly laid logging rail lines.
