A short reprieve

This morning we woke up to fog! This means that the winds shifted from off-shore to on-shore, so the winds are blowing on-shore, with humidity that will help the firefighters get ahead of the fires (this week at one point our home thermometer registered 10% humidity). It also meant that the air at least seemed cleaner. After I dragged Lukas with me to the chiropractor (so I could use the carpool lane during rush hour traffic), we came back and played in the front yard, Natalie swinging for the first time in a long time, and Lukas collecting sticks that were blown off our trees while Tom sanded the door casings in the new kids' room to prep for painting.

Then the fog started clearing up, which meant more off-shore winds that carry the smell of smoke, so we went back inside for the rest of the day. Hopefully the end is soon in sight, both for the fires and for the weather that fans the flames and brings the smoke our way.

BTW, Lukas enjoys pressing the foot buttons at the chiropractor that raise and lower the table I'm on. My chiropractor is very accommodating of his inquisitiveness. Lukas likes to hold my hand so I feel safe, and today I got him to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar to me while I lay on my stomach (he has it memorized).
