We're very thankful that our home is not in danger from the wildfires (not that we wouldn't love to live closer to the edge of an urban area, instead of in the middle of it...but here is one of the benefits). But we have been impacted by the terrible air quality as a result of the fires: the air is heavy with smoke (the closest fire is probably 15 miles away) and there is ash raining down constantly...not something you want your children to breathe!
So ever since the fires started (Sunday night?) we've had to play inside. Usually we play outside every afternoon, at the very least...sometimes we play outside in the morning too, if we're at home. After last week's colds that kept us lying low, this week has been pretty unbearable...at least last week we could run off some steam outside.
The kids (and me, too!) have cabin fever. Lukas just slammed Natalie's finger in the door because the latest game is playing "close and shut the door". I need to get some doorstops that keep Natalie from being able to close the doors...Lukas sees her playing with the door and joins in, at a higher energy level that means someone (probably Natalie) is going to get hurt.
I did let him push her around in the laundry basket, but not too fast so he doesn't tip her, until I decided I wouldn't be able to handle two injuries of Natalie in the same day, so the TV went on. When there hasn't been physical activity in so long, I think it's hard for Lukas to sit still and play an indoor game with blocks and cars that won't result in someone getting hurt.
Hopefully the air quality will be better tomorrow!
