If you've noticed, on the right side of this blog, we have a few links to other blogs hosted by parents of kids with RTS (the syndrome Natalie has). If you haven't noticed, you might enjoy meeting a few of these families. The newest family to start this journey is Jessica and Adam, parents of Alex, who is 4 months old, and two other typical boys. Jessica is going through the hardest part of life with a child with RTS, the first year, and a lot of her posts take me back to our first year with Natalie.
As I told Jessica, I wasn't ready to share my emotions with the world during the first year...I would have spent too much time crying after writing what was going on (Natalie refluxing everywhere, several times a day; too many trips to the doctor to remember; too many trips to the therapists each week, why can't we have a normal child?, what is going to go wrong next?, is Natalie ever going to talk or walk?, how delayed will she be?, etc.) I applaud Jessica for taking this path this early...I think it can only be for the good. I've found it therapeutic both to write down what we're doing, but also to tell others what we're going through.
Welcome, Alex, to the world, and welcome, Jessica, to the world of blogging about our kids.

I was reading some of your old blogs, I believe they were from a year ago. How old was Natalie last January, and what was the electrode thing around her neck, was that to help her swallow? Can you tell me a little bit of her first few months, I havent been able to talk to anyone else who had a baby that couldnt take liquids by mouth. It looks like you had speech or swallow therapy three times a week, we only have it twice.
Alex started out on a bottle, but over Thanksgiving had pnemonia they did a swallow study and he failed on thick and thin. Now he is all tube.
When did Natalie start taking food and liquids in by mouth? How do they know it is safe? Please give me lots of details when you have time:)
Thanks for your welcome on your blog, that means so much.

Hi Jessica. Natalie was 13 months last January. The electrodes were part of her swallowing therapy: they trained her muscles to swallow properly. I'll email you privately with more info, but I encourage you to read the blog to see how much Natalie has grown in a year.
Cindy :)
