A blast from the past

Today was the dedication ceremony for the Groundwater Replenishment System and I attended while Tom stayed home with the kids (his Friday off). Doing public relations for this project was a big part of my life four years ago (next week will be exactly four years since I stopped working at Orange County Water District to have Lukas and stay home with him). The GWR System is the largest water reclamation project of its kind in the world.

I really had a blast at the event: it was great to attend and celebrate the project coming to life after having worked on it for so many years, and it was great to see so many people that I hadn't seen in a long time. I've kept up with many of the public relations people I worked with, but it was cool to see engineers, geologists, plant operators and many others that I hadn't seen in several years. It really felt like homecoming week, a grand reunion of all the water people who worked to make the project a reality.

But you know what? I don't miss it! I'm so happy that Tom and I made the choice that I would stay home to care for our kids. Other people can (and did) continue the public relations effort to make the project a reality...but other people can't be parents to our kids.
