First day of swimming

Wednesday is the one weekday that Natalie doesn't go to school, so this is a perfect day for her to have swimming lessons, and I'm only going to make one trip a week, so Lukas changed his swimming lesson to Wednesday too. In fact, I have both of them in the water at the same time! How is that for efficiency!

Of course, Natalie loved it...we knew she would. Her instructor asked if there was anything she should be aware of with Natalie (I had told her Natalie has special needs and is 3 but acts like 2). I shook my head and said, "Well, she goes stiff if she doesn't want to do something." When Jennifer held Natalie in the water, she commented on her g-tube mic-key button (above her belly button). I think it's so funny that I forgot to mention it to her...I almost don't notice it any more. Okay, for the record, Natalie has a g-tube and ear tubes...I added the ear tubes after she was in the water for several minutes, but I guess it was obvious since she had ear plugs in.

Natalie was quite comfortable putting her head under the water and gliding through the water from one castle to the next. She cried when her lesson was over...she wanted to stay in the water longer.

Lukas has a new instructor now with the new time, and I think Karen will be good for him. She had him doing some new things today, and I heard him say several times "I can do it by myself"...Lukas is a big one for saying he can't do something when he can. So we're off to a good start.

Konrad is much more antsy now than he was last year...he wants to get down and crawl to the pool to join his siblings. Since it's close to lunch time when we go, I keep him distracted with Cheerios.

And it was WONDERFUL that this is one of the warmest days we've had in a while...it should be 68 degrees today (yes, we'd love to have visitors from our northern family and friends!) The lessons are outside, and the only reason they are canceled due to weather is if there is lightning.

It's so nice to go to swim lessons and not be rushing off to pick up Natalie from therapy. I'm sure this will be a much better experience for all of us, all the way around.

Well, Im jealous of your weather. the pool must be heated though right? 68 degrees is nice but still cold for swimming.
I cant beleive how much Natalie has grown!

I'm jealous of your weather too! It got to a high of 30 here today:(.

It's great that Natalie loves to swim. I'm terrified to put Em in Swimming lessons. She's 5 but if the tiniest bit of water gets in her mouth she throws up???? I'm not sure why, but I think a swimming instructor might freak:). We take her to the pool a lot....but have never done lessons.

Glad the new timing is working for all of you.

Yes, Jessica, the pool is heated.

Wow, Angie, I can understand your hesitation in putting her in lessons. Maybe by asking around you could find one who has worked with special needs kids, and wouldn't be freaked out.
