Five straight days of storms = 6 inches of rain. When the average annual rainfall in Southern California is only 13 inches, this is a significant amount! Thankfully for us, after the flooding on Tuesday, the heavier storms that came spread their rainfall out over more time, so we didn't experience flooding on our street again. But those homes near where there were wildfires last fall have had significant mud flows and flash floods.
Wednesday was my birthday, but it seems like the whole week has been a birthday celebration: we celebrated with the kids on Tuesday, had cake at lunch on Wednesday (since I baked the cake on Tuesday but couldn't quite get it frosted for dinner) and went out to dinner and a movie with Tom on Wednesday (we saw Leap Year, starring our new favorite actress, Amy Adams [we first loved her in Enchanted, then in Julie and Julia, then in Night at the Museum 2]), and had a birthday lunch with Susan on Thursday. And today Tom had off so we went to the Aquarium of the Pacific...it's still the same week as my birthday, so I guess it counts as a continuation of the celebration!
Tom couldn't remember if Konrad had been to the Aquarium, but we last went back in May--ok, it looks like Tom didn't go with us that time, so that's why he doesn't remember (good thing we have a blog to keep track)! It's funny to look at those sunny pictures of our last visit, because today was nothing like it! It was rainy and dreary, but we still had a great time. Here are some pictures, a video of Natalie describing what she's seeing, and a video of Konrad because he didn't make it into any decent still photos.
