It's been a long time since I've pulled out the placebo trick, but last night we used it again.
Lukas kept getting out of bed, complaining that he couldn't sleep. When counting sheep wouldn't work, finally Tom said, "We'll give you something that will help you sleep, Lukas."
As far as I know, there is no OTC sleeping aid for kids, but Lukas doesn't know that. So I put apple juice in his medicine dispenser and gave it to him. He said, "Is it Benadryl?" I told him it wasn't and to just drink it.
Lukas got up again five minutes later and Tom told him what I gave him would take about 15-20 minutes to work.
This morning, Lukas' first comment to Tom at the breakfast table was that the medicine I gave him last night, "took 21 minutes to work."
