Butterflies II

It was especially fun that the butterflies attached to our house emerged over the course of three days, so we got to see at least one every day.  Here's the one that was attached right above our garage door:

Here's Natalie looking at the butterfly that emerged and signing and saying "butterfly".  Lukas and Konrad have moved on from the butterfly and are examining the huge grasshopper that is on the window.

Later the butterfly dropped to the driveway (maybe to warm up some more?) and I was barely successful at capturing it with its wings open...you can see the beautiful blue spots on one wing here:

Can you see that grasshopper on the white horizontal middle portion of the window?

Here's a better view of it.  I did get confused on my zooming, so the end of the video is meaningless, but it's a cute one of Konrad excited about the praying mantis grasshopper.

I didn't notice until last night that there are red drops that exude from the emerging butterfly or pupa.  One butterfly was attached on the window next to our front door and I saw red drops on the window sill...a little more purple than blood, but it still reminds one of blood.  Such an interesting process of metamorphosis!
