As if having a baby wasn't enough excitement, we've also been enjoying end-of-the-year school activities for Lukas (Natalie's school ends a few weeks later, so I'm sure we'll have activities for her soon...and there's an IEP coming up). This past Saturday was Open House at Lukas' school (his school is in session one day a week, and I homeschool him the rest of the week).
Here's Lukas with one of his kindergarten classmates, Thomas.
And here's Lukas with the rest of his class and some of the older students from the school, doing the flag salutes:
I think the best part of the Open House was that Lukas got to see what the older kids had out for display in their classrooms: he was very interested in the science, history and art projects that they did this year and he is looking forward to being a part of projects like those next year.
Saturday night was a bowling fundraiser for the school. Lukas asked a few of his relatives to sponsor him (he was very reticent to ask anyone, but when I suggested he ask Tom and me to sponsor him, he didn't have any problem there!) The other relatives pledged set amounts, but Tom and I wanted to encourage him, so we sponsored him for $1 per pin...considering that Lukas has never bowled before (although he says he has) and the organizer estimated that the younger kids would bowl about a 50.
The theme was 1980s, and since a bowling alley is a little noisy for a newborn, I stayed home with the other kids while Tom and Lukas had a blast.
Lukas may have found his sport: the first game he bowled an 80 and the second game he bowled 72 (ok, they did have bumpers in the gutters for the younger kids). He even bowled a couple spares! Ouch! Next year we'll pledge a little more carefully!
