Last year it was hummingbirds, this year we watched butterflies emerge, and now we're enjoying a dove nesting right outside my kitchen window.
The doves picked a wire basket where Tom grows one of his epiphyllum. It seems like a well protected site, if they're willing to put up with the neighbors (us!) opening and closing the window, using the grill to cook dinner and turning on the kitchen light at night.
We noticed an interest in the basket about 10 days ago, and about three days ago we were sure they had chosen it for a nest. Today when Tom filled the hummingbird feeder (about 18 inches from the dove nest), the dove flew away so he took pictures of the eggs in the nest. He thinks there are three eggs, although he didn't get a clear picture of all of them.
I wonder if the dove likes the drip line going directly to her nest...it's fresh water for her!
