We homeschool Lukas, and one day a week he goes to a co-op where science, history, art and P.E. are taught. Today was his first day of school for the on-campus portion of his school (we started homeschool two weeks ago). Last year he was in the Pre-K/K class with four other students and this year he gets to be with 13 other students in the 1st-6th grade class. Tom and I are really happy that he's finally the youngest in his class, because he's the oldest at home and has been the oldest in many other situations with peers...we think he will learn a lot more from this position.
The morning started out wonderfully...Lukas got up early and finished his chores very quickly, the other kids seemed to be moving more quickly than normal without prompting from us, so we were on the step taking pictures by 7:30 a.m. Then we were all loaded in the car, I turned the key, and...no battery! Yesterday I was in a hurry returning from Lukas' taekwondo (dinner was on the stove) so I let Konrad close the car door, and he didn't close it completely. No, it's not the first time...the battery always recovered before...but this was one time too many and that was it.
This is one place it's such a blessing that Tom works so close. to home I called him, he came right home, I moved two car seats into his van (which already has two car seats in it) while he gave my car a jump, then I drove the kids to Lukas' school in his van while he took the car to get a new battery. What a guy! And we arrived at school in plenty of time for Lukas to get his backpack unpacked and settled in before getting in line for chapel.
Of course Lukas was quite excited to go as a first grader now with the big kids. And when I picked him up from school, he couldn't stop talking about the history and art class. He definitely had a wonderful day. Thanks to the teachers and the other big kids who helped him have a great day and welcomed him as a friend!
