Happy Girl

Natalie had a great day today. She did great on her hearing test (see previous post), she did great at e-stim swallowing therapy, and she did great this evening at home when I worked with her on physical therapy. At swallowing therapy, she took about 3 ounces of Pediasure from a sippy cup, unthickened. She still won't take it with a valve in the cup, so we put the valve in backwards so the flow is slower than without a valve at all, and she has to suck a little to get it out. Hopefully we can soon also transition to the valve in the right direction. Sarah and I discussed whether we would continue with Pediasure for her, and that's something Tom and I need to talk about. Pediasure makes more sense for a child who will continue to need liquid nutritrion because they're not eating enough solids, but we're hoping that Natalie will eat enough solids. So that means we might try her on whole milk. She doesn't drink formula without banana puree in it (that formula does taste pretty disgusting!), but the Pediasure's second ingredient is sugar, so I know she will always drink it if we give it to her.
Here's a pic of her where she must have sat unsupported for about a minute, which is a record for her. I feel certain her latest plateau is over and she's moved up a notch, both with eating and with physical activity.
