As if it weren't enough to take Natalie to therapy in the morning, followed by an OB visit, I had also scheduled (two months ago), a follow up for Natalie with her gastroenterologist (GI) specialist. He had previously told me to come visit him when Natalie was done with her e-stim swallowing therapy, so here we were finally getting to see him (there are too few pediatric GI doctors for the number of kids with GI problems).
There was only good news: Natalie weighs exactly 25 pounds (I forgot to ask her length since she was pretty fussy about lying down to be measured) and the doctor commented that she looks better each time he sees her (the last time he saw her was in May, before her glasses, so she has made tremendous strides since then.)
He suggested we have another swallow study next summer to see how she's doing and if we need to continue thickening her liquids. He agreed that the g-tube continues to be our backup for Natalie when she's sick, and said he would never remove a g-tube in November...when we're ready to remove it, we'll do it in spring or summer when we're further away from the sick season.
But wait, there's more craziness! On the way to the GI doctor, I called our pediatrician to see if she could see Lukas...sure enough, she had space, so we walked over after Natalie's appointment and had a good visit with her about an itch Lukas has been having for about a month now.
I'm exhausted! After four days of Tom home and taking responsibility for carrying Natalie when necessary, I have been spoiled!
