We were PLANNING to spend the morning (Tom's Friday off) as a family at a county park, taking a walk and letting Lukas loose on his trike.
Just before the last child was loaded into the van, Tom discovered Natalie doing exercises with her glasses, which caused them to bent into a heretofore unseen shape.
So before the park, we stopped at the optometrist. The optometrist took one look and said, "Well, they might snap this time, after all they've been through." Praise God that she was able to repair them without them breaking. I guess titanium only holds up for so long against the exercises of Natalie.
But, on the way to the optometrist, the van started bucking every time it came to a stop (idling). So while we were at the optometrist, Tom decided that we couldn't go to the park, but needed to go back home so we could take the van to the mechanic and hopefully get it fixed before the weekend.
We have no other vehicle to transport our entire family. Tom's vehicle will seat five, but not three carseats: it only seats two carseats. Konrad is getting baptized on Sunday, so we were running through possible permutations of ideas on how we would all get to church on Sunday (AND, Tom is opening the church, AND, I am working in the nursery).
Our mechanic couldn't identify the problem when we arrived, just by listening, and said he had two other jobs that had turned into big jobs ahead of us, so he couldn't guarantee anything. We left the van there and walked home (very convenient of him to be so close to our house!)
Then he called in the afternoon and said he found the problem and they could fix it.
Praise God, again, that they fixed our van today! What a relief!
So no park outing today...we might try again tomorrow.
