Reading report

Since announcing a breakthrough in reading, I haven't mentioned how well Lukas is doing. He's doing great! We just finished lesson 32 of the book and today he read "This little cat can run in sand. That little cat can sit on sand. See the feet." He reads a few of the words without sounding them out, and some of the words he still sounds out. We usually work on reading during the other kids' 10 am naptime (when we're home...hey, we're home a lot more now!)

As the book is titled "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons," we will be finished with the book in a couple of months. It's so exciting that Lukas enjoys working on these reading lessons and will soon be reading on his own (he will be reading at a second-grade level at the end of the book). The book recommends additional books to introduce after completing this instruction book, but we only have a few of them (Green Eggs and Ham, Nate the Great), so we'll be going to the library and/or buying new books.

I checked the blog for the first time we worked on reading, and apparently I started working on it with Lukas in 2006 (before he turned 3). He wasn't ready for it then, but by checking back with him every few months to see if he was interested, we found the right time!
