We get to be visitors

Today we visited Tom at work, for only the second time since he's been at his new job, and the first time with Konrad. Lukas and Natalie entertained Tom's colleagues and Konrad slept peacefully. It was fun to see Daddy at work and say hi to those he works with!

Afterward, we went to the library for a quick trip to read a couple books to try to overcome the fear of books we don't have that Lukas seems to have. It worked ok for about 2 minutes, until Konrad got hot and woke up and wanted out of his car seat. Then I had three kids to read to, including two who cannot sit on the couch unattended. The whole purpose was to read to Lukas, so when Natalie squirmed to get down, I let her, and held Konrad while I read to Lukas. Then Natalie went over to the library shelves and started pulling books off the shelf, her favorite pastime. We did get two books read (the ones I picked out when we arrived), before Lukas said he was very tired (which he never is at this time of day). So we left, with me thinking that we need a lot more work with libraries before Lukas is comfortable picking out books. Go figure!

On the way home I remembered we were out of milk, so we stopped at the grocery store (first time with 3 kids at this store). How would I do this? Unlike Costco, this store does not have a shopping cart with a place for two kids. So I took out the double stroller and pushed Natalie and Konrad, while Lukas pushed the kiddie shopping cart around and collected our groceries (which he was very happy to do). The only problem was when we wanted to take the groceries to the car, there is a sign on the kiddie shopping cart: "do not take outside". Apparently, people take the carts outside, and somehow the carts keep moving off the property. The checker asked me if I wanted our groceries in a regular shopping cart, but Lukas can't push that effectively, and I can't push a stroller and a shopping cart, so I just carried 6 bags of groceries with my hands while pushing the stroller. This method of shopping is really only effective for a few items that are light.

This afternoon after quiet time, I learned what may be the reason for Lukas' tiredness at the library, which I thought was an excuse to not participate in the book reading. He complained of being cold, but when I felt his head, he was hot. Yep, 100.1 degree fever. He hasn't had a fever in so long that I had to think what to do: Tylenol, fluids, extra clothes, sit in bed for 5 minutes before he can't stand it anymore...oh, yeah, the ultimate cure: Toy Story on DVD.

Due to several RTS parents "participating" in blogging, you've all piqued my interest and I've started a blog as well. =)
