Observing

Since Tom had the day off, I took the opportunity to observe Natalie in class again today. She's getting used to class and knows what's expected...which doesn't mean she always does it! She still has a hard time staying seated when there's something interesting going on...she tends to drift toward whatever is interesting.

Since it rained today (finally!) the kids had free playtime inside instead of outside. Natalie played with Play-Doh for a while, and then spent the rest of the time playing with puppets. I thought she was very comfortable with the puppets we used last week! She's used puppets in class several times. She did a pretty good job saying "pig" and "duck" for these two puppets.

Natalie's speech therapist gave the individual lesson to Natalie right before the group lesson, and this worked well. The therapist worked with everything the group was going to be doing later that day, so when it came time for group therapy, Natalie did great! She said "bay" for "bagel" and "sees" for "cheese"...the therapist tends to do a lot of edible crafts that become snack time.

Please excuse the poor quality of the pictures...they're from my cell phone, but for how low-tech my cell phone is, they came out pretty good!

Also on the topic of school, Natalie's school bus came home 15 minutes late the other day, which prompted a discussion by me with Natalie's pediatrician about whether I should worry that NATALIE DOES NOT NAP ON THE DAYS SHE GOES TO SCHOOL, since she's getting home too late to nap. The pediatrician said that some three year olds start giving up their nap, so it depends on how Natalie is handling the lack of nap: is she grouchy or falling asleep at odd times? No, she's not. She naps on days she doesn't go to school, but overall I have to admit that she is fine without a nap.

I guess I have been so concerned about possible sleep apnea with her sometimes snoring and heavy breathing that I thought she had to have more sleep, not less. But she's actually doing great, so I guess I won't complain about the bus schedule...they'll be a little late once an a while. I still put Natalie in her crib for a quiet time after school, but I'm not going to worry that she's not napping.
