Hold the onions, and the lizards!

I mentioned yesterday that Thursday, the day Dominik and I were discharged from the hospital, Tom took us for a quick visit to his parents.  We left the hospital right around 5 p.m., so we went through the drive through at Taco Bell for burritos to eat in the car on the way over.  It was a fun visit with Dominik's grandparents, and we arrived home in time for reading a book and praying with the kids before they went to bed (Lukas said, "This is Dominik's first book reading!"...and he's said every night since, "This is Dominik's second... third... fourth... book reading!")

That night as I was feeding Dominik around 10 p.m., I heard Tom rustling around in the tupperware drawer.  There wasn't any leftover food to put away...what did he need a tupperware for?  Then he said, "I found a baby alligator lizard on one of our curtains!"

We have several kinds of lizards running around in our yard.  The largest ones are "alligator lizards" (that's what Tom calls them...I don't know if that's the real name or not) that get to be about 18 inches long (mostly tail).  The other lizards are usually no longer than 6 inches.  But we've never had any lizard in the house.

Lizard.  Alligator.  Not words I want to hear used about something that is found inside our house.  My first thought is, "Is this going to be something that happens again?"  Sort of like the odd cockroach I find every other month?  Baby...that's the only word to describe this animal that I want to hear mentioned in our house, and only to describe Dominik, not any animal!

Tom thought it was cool.  I would have thought it was cool if he'd found it outside.  Ok, I finally had to relent and not be a total "mom" about it!  It is cool, and the kids thought it was very cool, when they saw it the next morning, right before Tom released it.  He was going to leave it in the house overnight, "because the sides of the tupperware are too slippery for it to climb."  Ok, if it's too slippery, then you can safely leave it on the front porch for the kids to see in the morning, without fear of it running away!

You don't believe me?  Here it is!

We tried to go to bed after that, but Dominik wouldn't settle down.  I thought he just wanted to be held...or fed...or held.  After doing both of those for several hours with great frustration (he would settle in his crib for 5 minutes, then wake crying), Tom said he thought he had colic.  I didn't think so, because he still wanted to eat.  Tom said, "but he's gassy all the time!"  Well, Dominik hadn't been gassy when I held him...but then I thought, burrito?

Tom went to the drug store and got some baby gas relief drops.  Within minutes of giving Dominik his dose, he was quiet and fast asleep.

I didn't have to worry about what I ate with Konrad, but it looks like I need to avoid onions and/or other gassy foods with Dominik.  Or use gas relief drops...they really work!

And no more lizards in the house, ok?

Its official name is Elgaria multicarinata, or Southern Alligator Lizard (http://www.californiaherps.com/identification/lizardsid/elgaria.id.html). They eat bugs, so they are on "our" side.

I had no problems eating foods either with Andrew so we'll see what happens with the one on the way! My poor sis couldn't have ANY dairy products with both her kids. Can you imagine no milk or ice cream for a year?!?
